"Los satisfechos, los felices, no aman; se duermen en la costumbre."

it was a remarkably busy day in the office today. between meetings in and out of the office, i got to enjoy a few brief intervals at my desk: these intervals were marred by pestering sales folk and equally annoying phone calls. amidst all of this, i step out of my office looking utterly discombobulated...
"how many sons does George Bush have?"
(i shoot back a combo-look: half puzzled/half 'what the fuck') "huh?!"
"you know, our president, how many sons does he have?"
(i compose myself and decide to calmly play into his joke) "uhhhhh, i dunno"
"come on man, he doesn't have any sons he just has two daughters"
it suddenly struck me, there's really no joke here...he merely wanted to know whether or not i was aware that GW had two daughters and zero sons. now he thinks i'm an idiot for not knowing and i think he's retarded for asking. i'm an idiot, an ailment that can be remedied...and he's retarded, an ailment that cannot be remedied. i win.

one more random thought...on my way out of the office, the elevator down to the lower parking levels began making this loud, odd noise. for just one second i thought to myself, what if i plummet to my death here, tonight at 1 in the morning, wouldn't that suck? yes it would suck, but then people would have a really cool story to tell when they got home from work the next day..."guess what happened at work today sweety; this poor schmuck was working late and he died in a freak elevator accident as he was about to leave! Yeah, that totally sucks, especially since i kinda liked the guy...he's the one that would kick me down with red bulls...yeah that guy. but its kinda funny, that sorta shit doesn't happen every day (chuckle) imagine the look on his face as he realized..." and then i realized, i'm on the second parking level, there's only one parking level below...at worse i'd plummet to a bad ankle sprain. and just like that, my story: not so interesting.

p.s. i did know Dubya only has two daughters...twins: Jenna and Barbara...and a cat named Willie. and my coworkers remarks? still not funny and/or interesting.
